Traveling around Australia, I've gotten into conversations where sometimes what they just said sounds like alien speak... It's like they're using real words, but they just don't make sense!
Anyway, I've been documenting some of these words and have compiled a list for you to review! I'm sure there will be more fun and funky words/phrases to add onto this list.. but for now here is what I got:
Trolly = Shopping Cart
Biscut = Cookie
Light Globe = Light Bulb
"Having a piss" = Fuckin with ya
Breakky = Breakfast
Tram = Trolly / Rail Car
Sunnies = Sunglasses
Torch = Flashlight
Dobber = Snitch/ Narc
Hire = To Rent
Tyre = Tire... just spelled funky
Crisps = Chips
Chips = Fries
"Good on ya" = "Good for you"
Bogan = Hick/ Red Neck
Trainers = Sneakers
Avo = Afternoon
Docket = Receipt
Que = Pause/Wait ie: "Do Not Que In Intersection"
Tripper = Drug Dealer
Duvvah = Duvet / Comforter
Macca's = McDonald's
Vinnies = St Vincent Depaul's
Savvos = Salvation Army
Thongs = Flip Flops
Nice eh??? I know.. totally weird... and some of those terms apply to England as well!
I'll add onto this post more as the phrases and words come up... but till then.. enjoy and have a chuckle and try to use an Aussie word today! :)
